Mt. Rainier - Not quite Paradise

The game plan was no game plan.  Minimally, we planned to stop at Paradise through the Nisqually entrance and hike some light trails, eat and putz around.  Against my nature, I didn’t research any of the trails, which is ok because we ended up going through the entrance for Sunrise, near Crystal Mtn.  Never been this way before. We stopped at the first trail head we saw.   OwyHigh Lake.  It was straight up elevation and we got caught in a thunder shower. I ran out of water and my rain jacket was in the car.  Not expecting that in the heat of the day, but the rain soaking felt good.  Ready for lunch after that, we soaked in the views at White River campground.  An attempt for Sunrise brought on the start of (another) panic attack that day.  Not once in my life have I experienced that.  Normally, curvy roads with extreme drops offs do bother me, but never to the point of stopping the car, not being able to go further. Perhaps it was the elevation of the area? I don’t know.  It’s never happened before.  It’s not safe to drive in the middle of road so, we turned around. Plus, there was a concern of running out of gas.  LOL.  Stopping at a trail outside the park on the way out, allowed another decent ankle beating.   I decided to stop at one point and soak my ankle in the ice cold water.  It did a world of good.  Long long day that didn’t quite go as anticipated but still fun.  I don’t think I will be driving next time, just in case.
