Ashland Lake (s) turned Lake Twenty Two

Last night our party of 4 turned into 3.  This morning our party of 3 turned into two!  I only need one, so thanks for coming Amy!   As we drove up FSR 4020, we hit patches of snow, which turned into snow tracks with still a 4 long miles to go.  The last thing I wanted to do was get stuck, and not be able to turn around. Especially with drops on both sides (because - you know - I never had to put tire chains on and drive backwards for miles with drops on both sides before, in a little pickup truck while totally having to pee.)  I tend to learn things the hard way.

We turned around and decided on the next best trail.  Lake 22.  When we saw people coming down with gators on, trekking poles and crampons I was pretty sure we weren’t going to see the lake today.  The trail is just as pretty as I remember it. My first time hiking this trail in the late fall however, and was surprised by the endless rivers we had to cross and a downed tree.  When we hit slush and a downpour of ice on open terrain, it was time to head back. I was soaked at this point but as happy as can be.  It was at least 4 miles. Maybe close to 5.
